If you nudge the track over to a different strip on the surface can you automate/update it? If not Check and make sure that the Track, Send, or plug-in is not in automation safe mode.

You can focus a channel in the software by opening the output window of a track (the little fader beside the output selector) with the D-Command/Control preference ApTrgt (Apply Target) Set to "On"...

Hey Don,

You should try jog wheel scrolling instead......this will work the way that you want it to, plus it will make you look cool.

Press and hold either of the Nudge 1 keys, than use the jog...

All plug-in mapping is up tp the manufactuer......best thing to do is focus the plug-in and display it through custom faders plug-in to see all of the parameters.

While viewing VCA's in CF master mode with the members displayed in the encoders, hit the select button under the encoder for the track you wish to glide back...it will become the focused track in...

It is possible to record with external mic preamps.

If you are using Neve, API or equivalent preamps you have to go through the line inputs that are basically poor quality integrated circuits...
