I totally agree.

I think what Topjimmy meant was taht the clip might not be a whole-file on disk, just a section of a whole-file. Consolidating the clip makes it a separate file.

If I understand you correctly, all you have to do is put PT into "Spot mode" (instead of Grid, Slip..), drag the clip to the track and use the sync time that comes up. Easy.
