you could always just use a voltmeter and the digi tone generator..
set it for a 1kHz sine wave at -14dBFS and strap the meter at pin 2 and 3 of the output in question... it should read 1.223V......

it pretty obvious that digital audio is far from perfect.....
but imo it's neither bit depth or sample rate that are limiting the sound of digital audio... it's the designer unwillingness to use...

regarding the powerbook.... as you probably know the usb ports are shared too....
and the "great" thing is that according to the usb standard you have a max. of 500mA on each bus..... and the mbox...

just tested the m-box with logic express
although you can set the buffer in logic to as low as 32 samples all settings lower than 512 seems to have no effect......
tried with le 6.4 and core...

try it out....
you're only going to affect software.... that could be reinstalled
oh and by the way...... the digi 001 works fine in os x and with protools up to version 6.4... so why not use...

a cheaper way is to solder a wire with rca on one end and xlr on the other!!
wire the center pin of the rca to pin 2 of the xlr
the shield goes to pin 1+3 of the xlr
don't worry.... it will...

yes you're doing it the wrong way.....
do not split the continuous file!!
use a program like waveburner pro from emagic to set id's in the file directly.... then burn it...
only problem is...

infa...
waveburner allows you to manipulate id's as you like...... essential for compiling finished cd for pressing
also.... isrc codes is not supported in toast..... again essential.....

i compared protools and nuendo with the same files with absolutely no processing and the same converters... the 96 i/o...
