I am going to remove the jumpers from my SATA-II disks as this motherboard supports 3Gb/s. Don't think that will buy me any more D-verbs but something will be faster.

(More or less) same here... I will be sticking with the Asus P5Q MB. That "$100 special" P5K Deluxe
I mentioned earlier is a Refurb with only a 30-day warranty. Hope to have a good story to tell...

What about CPUs? Should I stick with:
Q6600, 2.4GHz, 2x4MB cache, or look into
Q8200, 2.3GHz, 4MB cache
