Re: Strike and Pro Tools Ultimate 2023.x

There is a 64-bit AAX version of Strike, but apparently it is not the version that was included with PT? AIR still sells the product. So the last PT included version was RTAS only? Anyway you can buy...

Re: Dolby Atmos in Pro Tools / Windows is anybody doing it?

I have no solution for the delay compensation issues. They don't exist in Reaper, so I can't comment. I don't find the other things very confining because of how I work. One could automate everything...

Re: Dolby Atmos in Pro Tools / Windows is anybody doing it?

Try the demo for Fiedler Atmos Composer. It's a native solution that (theoretically) will let you render Atmos from within PT itself. I haven't tried it in PT, but it should work. (I'm using Reaper...

Re: Why can't Pro Tools import FLAC files?

You seem to think this will be time consuming or difficult. It is neither. The libraries exist so the effort is minimal. A good engineer could probably have it working in an hour or two. (I've...

Re: HUI control surface bug

Slightly off-topic, but related: Initially the HUI protocol was very well integrated into PT. My understanding was that Mackie entered into a 20-year partnership with Digidesign / Avid to offer full...

Re: Existing Perpetual License Owners

My perpetual license is several years old (v12.8), before the subscription plans, etc. I don't believe I have a reinstatement code available to me. Not that I plan to, but with this new scheme Avid...

Re: Really ?

You're right, PT11, not PT12. But if it wasn't a complete rewrite, it was close to it. It introduced the AAX standard, a new audio engine, etc. And it makes sense that it was new software because the...

Re: Really ?

I was under the impression that when PT went 64-bit (PT12?) there was a complete rewrite by an outsourcing group overseas. I seem to remember that being made public at that time, but my memory could...

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

I hate subscription plans. Companies go out of business and a subscription plan can end abruptly, for example. Also, I want to be able to bring up old projects, and if the license has lapsed the old...

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

Effective as of today? Has this been common knowledge? Otherwise that's insanely short notice, though existing stock can still be sold. But I can't even imagine working with a product without a...

Re: ProTools 2022 Update?

First, this may have nothing to do with Ukraine. Does anyone here know for a fact that the current project team is located there? There should have been an announcement, if so. I haven't followed...

Re: ProTools 2022 Update?

Yours is the flawed logic. There is no reason to believe the developers in a precarious foreign country (Ukraine was invaded in 2013, after all) are particularly skilled. They may be college students...

Re: question for gamers DAW choice...

Not really. There are a whole litany of reasons Reaper is a better choice. Off the top of my head: sub-projects, multiple projects open at once, a better media explorer, support for VST (seems to be...

Re: 2020 compatibility to v12?

What about Freeze and Commit? Seems like PT12 would have no way to handle tracks like that.

Re: ARA: They really just don't know how to do this, do they.

Which brings the conversation back to the fact that while there are workarounds, ARA2 would be very useful for many people.

Re: ARA: They really just don't know how to do this, do they.

Comparing an "industry standard" product to 30 year old technology seems inappropriate. It seems reasonable to compare it to competing DAW products, and a number of them have full ARA 2 integration,...

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

Check open forums, look around the internet. From what I see, there are definitely people who like and defend PT as a product, but it is very hard to find anyone anywhere who will defend Avid and...

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

I switched from PT to Reaper in 2016. Best move I ever made. Is it comparable to Pro Tools? For my uses, it is not comparable, it is better, far better. Faster, more efficient, more flexible, more of...

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

If the "industry standard" is so erratic that it can't even be counted on to operate properly, maybe the time to move on was long ago. What else can you say about a "professional" product that you...

Re: Pro Tools initializing midi engine for two minutes?

My guess is that PT is trying to open communication with a MIDI device that is not responding. It waits for a certain length of time, then eventually cancels the initiation attempt as it times out,...

Re: Pro Tools and 9093 Errors

This seems like something that should be reported back to the engineering team at Avid somehow. The hardest bugs to find and fix are intermittent. This might provide an important clue that could help...

Re: Voices reduced from 64 stereo to 32 stereo tracks in 2020.9

That's not true. I understand quite well, I was a software engineer for 23 years. They are still two different builds, though both are compiled from the same codebase. One version is built with one...

Re: Voices reduced from 64 stereo to 32 stereo tracks in 2020.9

I sure hope you're wrong about it not being tested at all, and I have to believe you are. There are differences between the versions, and if those differences aren't being tested the QA group should...

Re: Voices reduced from 64 stereo to 32 stereo tracks in 2020.9

While there is no reason to suspect a conspiracy theory, there is plenty of reason to question the QA process that Avid has in place. Typically a QA team has a set of regression tests in place...

Re: When was the last Update? (meaningful that is)

As I said, I don't know anything for sure. We can sit on the outside all day long and speculate, only the developers know. But the hack you are referring to is not at all related to ARA2...
