If you attempt to assign a Master Fader to an output or bus that has already been assigned the master Fader will be made inactive by pro tools until you select another...

Ah. Am coming from an audio post perspective so always need a ppm meter on our MF to check broadcast standards etc. Drop the first MF and start from the mixbusMF and all the routings should work...

Have not looked at the template being talked about here but it sounds like you may just need to create a second Master Fader for your "mixbusmaster."

Are you looking in your buses - as opposed to your interface options? Also, is your aux and bus stereo (i.e. all same number of channels)? Don't think you can rout a stereo bus to a mono channel
