Re: Powerbook vs Ibook (processor focused)

One of the main reasons I went for a PB is the ability to put my edit window on a secondary display, the ibook can only mirror.

Re: Powerbook Vs. iBook? RAM Size? Stability?

That was the clincher for me, being able to dump the edit window on a bigger screen while keeping the mix on the PB screen.

Re: Internal PB drive too slow

Internal PB drive too slow

Digidesign state that only limited recording is possible with internal PowerBook drives but I can't even record two tracks with my Mbox at band rehearsals.
I use an external FW drive at home but I...

Re: ALL PRO TOOLS USERS PLEASE READ (and act...)

It would be unrealistic to make serious audio judgments while sitting on a beach but there's plenty you can do.
Being stuck indoors is not very creatively inspiring so how great is it to be able to...

Re: OT: Poll - Using PT with OS9 or OSX ?

I wouldn't go back to OS9 personally but ProTools has only just caught up with OS10.2.3 and it's taken quite a few patches to get there.
I think most studios are following the 'aint broke don't fix'...

Re: do i really need TOAST?? ( re:backups)

Disc burning was only introduced in OS 9.1 If yours is prior you will need to download a patch.
It is also best if you're burner is built in as some 3rd party drives were not supported.
You also...

Re: safe to go Panther?

I've stayed on 10.3.1 cause Digidesign advise against using software update, if you've had no trouble maybe I'll chance it.
Mind you some seem to be having problems with Panther, I wonder if they're...

Re: Purpose of overheads?

Most people recording drums on a budget would use a pair of overheads to capture the cymbals & only close mic the hi-hat/snare/kick/rack.
Big studios would close mike everything then use overheads...

I partitioned my 12" PowerBook as soon as I got it & have not had any probs recording to it so far,
I'm not sure there is any benefit in this although it saved me having to reinstall everything when...

Re: iBook vs. Powerbook as PT platform

The main reason I went for a PowerBook is the dual display capability, the iBook has only mirror mode.
As for performance, only the top end iBook is as fast as the 12" PowerBook & with host systems...
