are you sure it is not thin instead of trim...
When you tell Pt to thin the automation, it actually looks at all your break points and deletes some of them. (hopefully the not so necessary ones). ...

It all comes down to how "picky" you want to be. I never had trouble with just selecting the area and triming. I don't know, but have you tried "tab" it may just take you to the end of the region....
