Answered my own question. Disabled serial / parallel ports in bios. Under pci configuration set slot 3 from auto to IRQ 9. Now I'll reinstall XP (again!) and try this WITH acpi.

I have the same problems with my non deluxe a7n8x. I just ordered an a7v333. I'm going to let the a7n8x sit on the shelf for a few months and see if anybody figures it out.
