Re: Mac Mini with 5400rpm internal HD - does this work?

Just to be clear I wasn't intending to use the internal audio for processing audio files, more, whether the internal 5400 was quick enough to run the host software.

Mac Mini with 5400rpm internal HD - does this work?

Hi,
anyone using a newer Mac Mini with the 5,400rpm internal HD? (presuming it's hooked up to a 7200rpm external).

Just wondering whether the internal drive needs to be the recommended 7200.

Re: Should I buy an iMac?

'Way slower'?

That quad-core in the UK I quoted can be had for around £700 - the top line iMac is around £1500.

That's a heck of a budget for a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I wouldn't argue...

Re: Should I buy an iMac?

I'd also consider the quad-core Mac Mini i7 (2Ghz) with dual 500GB 7200rpm internal drives. 16GB RAM.

Couple that to any screen for surely the best bang-for-buck solution.

Not quite the speed...

Re: Recommend a USB 3.0 Ext. HD

Cheers. Yeah, Mac user for many years. MacMini (late Oct 2012) will be coupled to this external drive and SSD sounds a plausible option then.

That Samsung drive can be acquired in the UK, a bit...

Re: Recommend a USB 3.0 Ext. HD

Just to be clear, I wasn't insinuating that it was a *good* idea for Apple to put 5400 drives into their machines. Well, let's be honest it's a monumental cash saving exercise and a lot of the...

Re: Recommend a USB 3.0 Ext. HD

You might want to share that advice with Apple who are fitting 5400rpm drives in new machines as standard.

So anyway - a USB 3.0 SATA hard drive enclosure seems a decent shout, then any drive...

Recommend a USB 3.0 Ext. HD

Thought it'd be easy finding a USB 3.0 drive for PT that span at 7200rpm.

It doesn't seem so.

Plenty of contradictions that seem to suggest that a good 5400rpm USB 3.0 drive can be as effective...

Re: Quick Straw Poll - What RAM are people using?

I'm glad I posted this - I think the new Mac mini with 16GB of RAM allowance would be better.

Quick Straw Poll - What RAM are people using?

Hiya.

Was about to buy a new Mac mini and affix a separate HD for audio I/O but noticed the older quad-core servers (with the 7200rpm dual hard drive config.) are now going for a song (excuse the...

Re: Help? Vocal mastering

What do you reckon albee, do you think cassie nipped off and tried setting that up?

Shouldn't take longer than a few minutes for someone unfamiliar with the practice of sibilance removal ;)

Re: We Need A New Forum Section

Has anyone noticed the *lack* of manuals these days? - take Apple for instance, you open an iPad box up and it says ... 'plug it in'. So then you go to the website, search, and find there is no...

Re: Fast Track II ... any good?

albee,
how do you find me? ;)

Aye, your probably right, a few pounds (dollars) extra would probably guarantee a more sturdy and reliable unit.

Re: Fast Track II ... any good?

Cheers pal.

Looks fine, but I'm kind of after nothing more than a quick input / output device, with my mixer taking the brunt of the connections.

Original question probably sounds naive, I...

Fast Track II ... any good?

Hiya,
just on the lookout for a decent I/O device to replace my Mbox Mini 2 - will be wired to a mixer so no requirement for a host of input sockets.

Is the Fast Track II any good?

As in,...

Re: Cubase 7 is out with a BANG ! Avid We Need PT 11 !!

The amount of power that the likes of ProTools, Cubase and Logic offer nowadays negates any argument as to what is better.

They are all 'better' - it just depends who is at the helm.

I'm fairly...

Re: Playback from SD Card

Hi.

I was interested to see if anyone would chime in on this one.

I had read (somewhere) that input/output speeds on SD cards were somewhat prohibitive and therefore unsuitable for audio...

Re: What's the score with LE 8 and Lion?

Thank you.

I guess a Snow Leopard install on a new machine is then advisable, following the upgrade path as suggested.

No MIDI? - so, no MIDI from an Mbox?

Are many people happily running LE on Lion, Mountain Lion etc.?

Re: Pro Tools 10 and Behringer FCA202?

Pro Tools 10 and Behringer FCA202?

Hi,
anyone using a Behingger FCA202 with PT10 at all? - pref. with Mac.

Can't find anyone online and a few queries to retailers haven't been entirely convincing. I'd ask Avid directly but I...

as a few people have mentioned, the MacPro's are more ... Mac Olds now.
Their price compared with newer machines just doesn't stack up.

Appreciate the need for expansion and using...
