Using a Mac Pro 4,1 with PT 2019?

I have a client with a Mac Pro 4,1 (early 2009, Intel Quad-Core Xeon) who wants to upgrade to Pro Tools 2019. But, at least officially, PT19 is qualified to run on MPs 5,1 and above.

I have...

Re: New Mac User - Suggestions?

I'm a big fan of the newertechnology Voyager hard drive docks from OWC. I just buy raw SATA drives and plug them in to the Voyager; it's less hassle than having to open a USB 3 hard drive...

Re: Opening Session results in audio buffer issues.

When you have a session that's at the wrong sample rate, go to Audio MIDI Setup and see what the sample rate is for your Aggregate Device. I don't know if Pro Tools can "reach in" to that and reset...

Re: PT update from 12.4 - 12.8 iLok issue

Yes, they changed that last fall. You "surrender" the license and get another one. There's a tech note in one of the Avid posts. I did it a few months ago, no problems after I got over the fear.

Re: Downgraded to 11.3.2 from 12.4

How much RAM do you have installed?

At least Avid includes access to PT10 and 11 as part of the 12 purchase/upgrade. I was upgrading from PT9, which I kept for too long because one of my clients...

Do the new bundles include earlier bundles?

I just upgraded to Pro Tools 12.4, so far so good, under El Capitan, also sfsg...

In the huge number of other software and documentation to download, I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I...

Re: Lack of Approved Apple Laptops?

Thank you Oliver, that's exactly what I needed to know.

It must be something with his other software that's causing a problem, and it's hard to get Mac/Avid support in Japanese.

Re: Lack of Approved Apple Laptops?

I don't understand why a 17" MacBook Pro with i7 processor (8,4) at 2.2 GHz won't work with Pro Tools 11, and a 15" MBP 9,1 at 2.3 GHz is qualified. They're both 64-bit machines. This...

Re: Advise Please! PT Travel Rig

I agree about the MOTU Traveler, I use it with PT 9. Without the rack ear extensions attached, it has a very small profile, is metal and rugged, and the CueMix FX software allows some pretty complex...

Re: One-way communication with Mackie Control?

Problem solved:

The MIDI interface was a MOTU Express 24, which has filtering capability. No one had activated that, to the studio's knowledge, but after I opened the MOTU ClockWorks application...

Re: C24 adat connection questions

We could use a little more information...what exactly doesn't work? No audio at all from any input on either interface?

Check the output of the Presonus: the optical cable should be glowing...

Don't forget peak display readouts

The wide meters are great, but I'm more fond of the optional PEAK display under the faders while recording. Usually the number under the fader is a readout of the fader level (VOL), but hold CMD...

One-way communication with Mackie Control?

A studio I work at has a Mackie Control Universal (MIDI only version) that works in HUI mode with Pro Tools. But I can't get it to control Pro Tools 10, only to "display" it: moving a screen fader...

Re: Mackie Control Universal Pro/Extender with Pro tools 10 Issues.

The Lexan overlays for Mackie Control is available (kind of expensive though, $20 total) through Mackie: http://www.mackie.com/products/mcu/mcu_overlay.html . But didn't one come with your unit?

Re: Converting S/PDIF output to AES input

Thanks for the information, Park. The Rane paper is particularly authoritative and I appreciate their work. I seem to recall that very few products actually use "S/PDIF" (which implies use of track...

Converting S/PDIF output to AES input

I need to convert the S/PDIF digital output of a Digidesign 002 to an AES digital format to input into a CraneSong digital monitor control. I know that S/PDIF and AES have essentially similar data...
