Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Just a quick update, as I've thought through this a bit more while working on projects recently.

• This does seem to be squarely related to the choice of how to implement low-latency realtime live...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I've just re-tested this in 2021.6.0 and I'm afraid the behavior is still the same, even though native sidechain delay compensation has finally been implemented.

But the fact that sidechain delay...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Thanks Phil.

This issue has been a major time-efficiency obstacle the past week or so, on a project we were adding production elements to while already in the mixing phase of the project. Every...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Thanks Chris.
Yeah, I've had this issue for years also.
But because it's the presence of latency in the session that throws the timing out of whack, and because that topology often changes over the...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Thanks for chiming in, RobertDorn.

Based on what we've been troubleshooting so far, sidechain delay compensation in and of itself is not the answer to having time-sync'd plugins used on...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I hope you all don't mind me attempting to tag you all in one post.
You've all either mentioned that the timing problem that we've been discussing affects your own workflow, or else you've...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Wow. That's an intricate workaround.
I can imagine integrating that into my own workflow... I can also imagine how tedious and creatively distracting it might be to have to try to remember to check...

Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Hi Ivan -

You’ve already basically figured out the difference between the two circumstances, but here’s a (not-so-brief) description for clarity:

Plugins like delays only care about timing...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I hear ya. PT is still the quickest / most efficient workflow for us for certain tasks, but we definitely do more and more things in other environments when those environments are better suited. If...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I'm looping back around to this, as the issue is still very much present in PT 2020.12.

Your video highlights something interesting, and while I haven't yet tried to duplicate it with something...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Exactly. I think largely this issue has skated by, as far as Pro Tools goes, because PT isn't the environment of choice for many EDM producers.
And there are a number of reasons why... other...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Sorry - never replied to this because I hadn't had a chance to try any of it, but I've been thinking about it a bunch and now this thread has some activity again - so -
In a quick experiment inside...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Avid has confirmed that they can reproduce the problematic behavior, so now it's a function of when they're able to actually address it and what kind of priority it gets in comparison to whatever...

Re: Timing Problems in Plugins that Synchronize to Measure Boundaries

Which version of Melodyne are you using, and have you made sure it knows the session's tempo map?

If the session has a constant tempo, and if you haven't changed the session's tempo after...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I actually could see this being, well, not so much of a showstopper if it only affected MIDI performances. Kind of along the lines of "we don't want to alter the subtle nuances of a human performance...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Interesting.
In my simple testing with Filter Gate, it's possible to break it even with delay compensation amounts below 2048.
One instance of Maxim appears to induce 1024 samples of latency,...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I've finally just now watched these two videos. I hadn't previously noticed that, and it's an interesting aspect of this.
I'll have to try to find some time to test whether I'm seeing the same...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I was giving this very issue some thought last week.
From my own perspective - and I can't speak for anyone else on this, but this is what makes sense to me - because the degree to which the timing...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

I haven't specifically noticed this (nulling the delay compensation), but I also haven't looked for it. I've been tied up with remote editing pretty nonstop and haven't been able to check in on this...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Thanks for the heads-up - and thanks so much for chiming in on this.
I'll update my own case with a reference to your case number so that they know it's related.

Incidentally, in my own testing...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Heard back on the support case - just a request for more information about what Pro Tools version(s) I've tested this on. But at least I know the submission system worked.

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Cool, will do. At the moment its status is still "case in queue."

The possibility that audio timing is changing in subtle ways that we have no specific control over - which seems pretty likely...

Re: Can Anyone Verify / Advise? - Plugins / Delay Compensation / Timing / Downbeat

Thanks. Yeah, this kind of plugin treatment is something that gets asked for almost immediately in certain genres, and it would be great not to have to leave the PT mix environment just for these...
