Re: anyone using protools 2024 on D-Control?

D-Command is working fine here under Ventura with 2024.3. I don't think much has changed in regards to ICON support with any of the recent releases.

Re: 911! Anyone know the power supply for D Command?

I removed the Molex from mine and just soldered straight to the board, but either way will work.

I personally wouldn't bother buying the crimp tool unless you plan on making a small army of Molex...

Re: D-Command Monitor Section Midi Output

Hi! I haven't done a thing since the previous post, and a bunch of it has shuffled out of my mind since then. I moved to a Trinnov D-Mon for monitor control which directly supports both ICON and...

Re: Cycle button on D-Control

Have you tried a factory reset of the board, and a trashing of Pro Tools preferences? I've been surprised by how many peculiar hardware issues it can solve with my D-Command.

Re: HDX Consensus

Another issue I always encountered with HDX in hybrid mode was totally cooked delay compensation. Mixing in Pro Tools with a coreaudio interface would give me beautifully synchronised two pips on...

Re: HDX Consensus

I doubt you will find much in terms of a consensus. Bugs and tech issues aside, is the hybrid workflow actually beneficial? Or was it really just a move Avid needed to make to try and keep 12 year...

Re: It's actually a crying shame re Windows

The main problem I see with Avid's current approach is that is has totally destroyed an notion of an ecosystem. It is just three disparate product line ups linked only by the vaguest notion of using...

FS: Avid C24, Avid HD I/O 16x16 Analogue

Hey all,

Just moving on some equipment that isn't seeing much love at the moment. All in great working order. The Avid C24 is pickup only, but I am happy to ship the Avid HD IO 16x16 worldwide. ...

Re: HD Native Card Issues

Tried HD Driver 2023.3? From HD Driver 2023.6 onwards, Apple has been prioritising support with Apple Silicon Macs. The consequence of Apple Silicon support is it busted something on a lot of older...

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying

Are you drunk, Janne? I'm not suggesting anyone should be using plugins with 5000 samples of latency. RobertDorn is. He is suggesting that DSP is still 'super relevent today' because it automatically...

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying

You haven't read what he has written.

"today DSP is still super relevant... a limiter on the master buss that has 5000 samples of plugin delay... will cause a session delay of 5000 samples..."

Re: hdx aaxdsp is dying

That makes zero sense. Every AAX-DSP plugin has higher inherent latency than their native counterpart. If there is a native plugin on the master with 5000 samples of latency, the solution is exactly...

Re: Upgrade from MacPro 2013 to Mac Pro 2019 is it worth it?

It depends on the specs of the specific 2019 model, but they are generally a pretty substantial step up in performance. Similar to the 2013, they also have the added benefit of user upgradeable...

Re: Replacement For Avid Pre's . . ?

But the overwhelming majority of large format desks don't have switchable inserts on the mic preamps at all. That even includes newer SSLs like the Duality. The majority bring the signal path out to...

Re: Replacement For Avid Pre's . . ?

But what are you honestly suggesting here? That somehow his outboard gear is in a totally different room? That he never adjusts compression thresholds or attack times or EQ curves for anything? That...

Re: Replacement For Avid Pre's . . ?

Oh, I read your original post. I just can't believe they make audio engineers this lazy now. A patch bay much be getting close to its 100th birthday, and is still a basic prerequisite for...

Re: Replacement For Avid Pre's . . ?

Do you mean the Avid Omni? I can understand the gripe in that situation, as the analogue insert points are the only way to add outboard processing between the built-in microphone preamps and A/D...

Re: Neumann MA 1 Multichannel with MTRX STUDIO

You could use AUX I/O but it seems like an unnecessarily complex approach. The MA 1 application can directly access any Coreaudio or ASIO interface, including HDX or HD Native cards when Pro Tools is...

Re: Original Omni design philosophy?

That is really just a reflection of the nature of digital audio hardware, more than anything else. Particularly Avid hardware. The Omni was released in a time when users were required to have HD...

Re: 32bit float and outboard Mic Pre's

Audio converter chip designs are intentionally flexible, purely because the products they get implemented in vary to a huge degree. There are low powered designs for USB, higher powered designs for...

Re: 32bit float and outboard Mic Pre's

They say "multiple ADCs per channel", which is multiple analogue to digital converters... rather than chips. The only thing Avid are doing differently from MOTU or RME is that they are copying a...

Re: 32bit float and outboard Mic Pre's

Totally. The marketing is probably deliberately ambiguous. More must be better, right? :o

ESS, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, etc are all making 32-bit integer converter chips nowadays. A lot...

Re: 32bit float and outboard Mic Pre's

Carbon uses 32-bit fixed point converters, not floating point. They will clip at 0dBFS just the same as any other fixed point converter.

Re: Beating Pro Tools Delay Compensation tip...

I would try and rule out the presence of bugs first. The HDX Hybrid engine is riddled with delay compensation related issues. Perhaps try changing the session to a different playback engine, even if...

Re: Beating Pro Tools Delay Compensation tip...

Are you saying that your tracks aren’t green or orange if you remove all of the processing off your faux master bus? I would expect them to all be green/orange as they are lower than the maximum...
