I really should have added a bit more info,

I am using a Firewire 1814, with ADAT to an Octane. output 1/2 from the 1814 goes to my monitor speakers, 3/4 goes to a S-Phone headphone amp.

this is exactly what im doing, no joy with ProTools M-Powered.. if i do shift+ mute.. i can switch the automation types no problem, ( volume, pan, etc )
