The platinum has slightly better specified timings than the gold. The XMS is supposed to allow for easier tuning/OCing, as it has pre-defined settings that are designed with the i7 in mind.

Just to update - my drives are all running normally, now. I am still not positive why things got swapped, but as long as it is running, I won't worry about that.

I will work on getting a dverb...

Thanks. The strange thing is, everything was running just fine until the spontaneous reboots. All of the sudden, the drive designations changed. Hopefully, everything works out.

In terms of video cards, is the ATI/Radeon chipset still preferred to the nVidia/GeForce chipset? I remember reading, in the past, that there were some issues with PT and nVidia. I have an i7 build...

From reading the above posts, it seems that it the recommendation is to go with a 7200RPM/32Mb cache drive, rather than a 10000RPM/16Mb. Is this correct?

BTW, guitardom: the video card you have...
