Put all the low level stuff on a bunch of tracks and all the loud stuff on other tracks, send to aux groups or write Trims to end.

Have a look at your disk allocation under setup. I bet tracks 1&2 are assigned a different folder or location.

TL space also drops out when changing between snapshots (different scene locations etc) in TDM. I run my TL reverb sends as RTAS plugs now.

I too have clients arrive with omf / aaf and low res QT. DV Is stable and great running out of a canopus ( I run at 18qf in the video sync offset for tube tv)...... but converting .mov's to DV can...

when I'm doing group editing I use the quick keys to activate de activate groups- SHIFT+APPLE G. This really helps for speed and workflow.

try deleting fades folder, then reopen session, click re generate missing fades without searching.

G5's were great but there slowly fading away, when we got our 2x2.66 Dual core Intel Xeon It just blew our G5's away.
Now our 2x2.8 Quad core is blowing that out of the water.

I usually don't touch the groups, ie music fx dialogue and vo keep these at zero. then bus off the groups to stems and split tracks.
In your case with the music overlapping etc Group the 4 stereo...
