Upgrading from PT 11 to 12.5. Any advice?
Hello, I have Pro Tools 11.1 and I want to spend the money and upgrade it to 12 to work with my mac's El Capitan.
Do I keep my old plug ins and will my old sessions be able to be opened and used like before? I have never upgraded so I don't know what to expect. I see talk to crashing and drivers, and I want to get anyone's opinion on what/how things go. I have: DAW: Pro Tools 11. Computer: Mac OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan i5 Audio Interface: Scarlet 2i2 |

Don't upgrade until they release a stable version of 12

When do you think that might be?
Upgrading it to 12.5 then upgrading from there would be a bad idea? |

Unfortunately, AVID has screwed around with the code to pump out Cloud Collaboration on a tight deadline, and not tested thoroughly.
Hence, you have about 80% chance of having to enter the involuntary Beta program. There are a lot a experienced people on this forum that are having stability issues every day, and it probably isn't that they forgot to upgrade to the latest version of Waves. Plan accordingly. |

12.3.1 is awesome for Windows.
Since 12.2 has many advantages over 11. Read the What's New .pdf |

You would never be worried about an upgrade if you have a backup plan:rolleyes: Mine is to clone the system drive, pull it and install the fresh clone. Then update THAT drive. If it goes great, a few months later I will clone back over the original. If it goes sour, pop the old drive back in so you can get to work:o

Re: Upgrading from PT 11 to 12.5. Any advice?
12.4 is fine on Win and OS X for me. ANNND always do as Clonemeister Albee suggests. All my rigs have at least a pair of clones running and I keep an emergency offline disk. In the case of 12.5, I installed it on a Win7 clone and found it to suck pretty badly so it was easy to boot back to 12.4 on another drive and later roll the 12.5 back to 12.4 where I'm staying put for awhile. It's too bad the collab deal has broken things, but it's new territory for Avid and any early adopters. There's a lot of potential for the idea but I have some doubts as to real world implementation and I have a Fiber internet connect and server...which I can't take full advantage of since Avid wants to be a cloud vendor now.

I have tried 12.4 and 12.5. Neither work for me on Windows.
1 click track while tracking drums -9173. Go to beat detect and get access violation. If it's a plugin I can't find it. I just went back to 11. I can't recommend 12. Sorry it's been terrible for me. |
