PT 8 LE Downloads?

I've just gotten a new PC, but it doesn't have an optical drive.

I know that there are online downloads for the newer versions of PT, but what about the 8 LE?

I'm not asking about piracy, since I have the installation disk, and all the serial numbers required to install, I just don't have a drive in my computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey

I think you need to have an optical drive in order to install the main program 8.0 LE as the updates needs the drive CD to react to but you can try this page and see if you can use the full installer here:

http://secure.digidesign.com/service...rticleId=43353

Post back if that doesn't work as I still believe you need a separate optical drive to install the CD first.

Best of Luck

Do you have an Avid account? Go to the Avid.com Home Page (link at the top of this page), and log in to your account. Then go to products, and you will see the various categories. Hopefully, you will see PT8 LE in the "products not yet downloaded" category. If you don't have an avid account, someone else will have to chime in to help, it has been so long that I don't remember how mine got set up.

The PC is just about done, but I'm not home ATM, so I can't do it just now.

But I do have an Avid account from which I downloaded my Eleven rack expansion software. I haven't registered my PT software, so it doesn't show up on my account. But will I be able to register my product (PT 8 LE) and then download it? I just need the basic software, and I'll then use the updater.

@southsidemusic thank you for that link! I reallt hope the full installer works. I have seen other people using that link in other forums

Youre more than Welcome :-)

You should be able to register your copy anytime online on the Avid account and get the installers deposited into your account so best way I would do it is register and download the correct installers which came with the CD. Then use the link I provided for update purposes only. I would think that would be the easiest way, post back here if you need any registering assistance and I can bump it up to Avid if need be.

Best Of Luck

I suggest buying a USB optical drive. They come in very handy, and sooner or later, you will need to burn a disk:o

Re: PT 8 LE Downloads?

Hi, Iīm actually more familiar with the Mac install procedure for LE8
but as far as I have seen you only have to install one previous LE8 version
like 8.0.3 (donīt have to be done from a disk,
can just be installed from the downloaded installer from the link Southsidemusic has posted
as long as you have the serial).
Then just install the 8.0.5 updater and you should be fine.

There is something about drivers you may just read/check out at this site:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...667?popup=true

Just scroll down a bit, itīs at "installation instructions" and you might check
other informations as well which seem to be important written there
(e.g."When installing a version prior to Pro Tools 8.0.4 on a Windows 7 machine,
DO NOT plug in your LE device when the installer instructs you to do so.
This could cause installation errors. Users should install Pro Tools LE 8.0.x without
their device plugged in, then use the 8.0.5 updater and follow onscreen instructions,
plugging in their LE peripheral when instructed")!

Just check out the whole site before you go to install and you should be fine.

All the best, VRW

Re: PT 8 LE Downloads?

Hi! Really? I checked your link (also before I posted mine of course) and
I always get directly to the downloads (which is cool anyway because easier to find
if you donīt need any further info-saved it for myself ;)).
My idea however was just to lead him to the instructions and notes he might read.
I hope it has worked. :-)

Greetings, VRW

Re: PT 8 LE Downloads?

It worked.

I just downloaded the installer from the link in this thread, installed, registered with the serial number (or whatever it's called), and then used the software updater. Everything is running very smoothly.

Thanks for all the help, guys!
