Monitor Hiss

I just bought a Glyph GT-050Q and I have it daisy chained with my FireWire 410. It seems the the 410 is now causing my monitors to let out an awful hissing noise. When I unplug it from the hard drive the hiss stops and it is only through the monitors, not the headphones. Here is my setup:

MacBook Pro 15"
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.1
Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.3
M-Audio Firewire 410
Glyph GT-050Q 500GB

Anyone else experience anything like this? I know a lot of people have had problems with the 410, but mine has been going strong for almost 4 years. I'm starting to think I may need to upgrade my interface situation, but if that is not necessary I would really like to solve this problem. Suggestions?

If the Glyph has a grounded power plug, try lifting it.

Like, physically pick it up? If so, that doesn't do anything. Doesn't even change the frequency or sound of the hiss. The only time it goes away is when the interface is unplugged from the hard drive. If this helps, my chain is:

Computer>Glyph>410

And the connections are:

FireWire 800 from the computer to Glyph, and Firewire 400/800 cable into 800 port of Glyph from the 410's 400 port.

I have also tried going from the 410's FireWire 400 to the Glyph's 400 port. Same deal.

The grounded plug means a 3-prong plug into the power source. Lifting it just means getting an adapter from 3 prong to two. Some gear has a ground lift button.

That being said, you should have your 410 plugged directly into the computer, and your Glyph plugged into the 410. In general, you should always keep the audio interface first in the chain. You may need an adapter if your mac only has the fw800 input.

To simplify, computer to 410, 410 to Glyph. This may solve your problem

Pardon my ignorance. "Lifting" it seemed to do the trick, but your method of daisy chaining is not what Digi recommends. I read this on another post:

Thanks for the advice/help! My problem is fixed, but maybe someone could shed some light on why one way of daisy chaining is preferred to another?
