Connecting 11r to four track
I'm looking to record audio from my eleven rack to a tascam portastudio mk3... would it be safe for me to connect the main outs from the 11r to the xlr ins on the tasacam without frying the unit? Also is it possible for me to record in real time this way, or would I have to record into into my daw first, then record into the tascam during playback?

Re: Connecting 11r to four track
The main outs on the 11R are line level. I believe all of the XLR ins on the PortaStudio are mic level, so if there isn't a pad feature on the inputs, then it would not be a good idea. You can however use a DI box to convert line level signals to mic level, which would allow you to safely connect the 11R.
I'm not sure how you have things set up, but once you get your levels straightened out, there would be no problems recording in real time from the 11R main outs. |
Re: Connecting 11r to four track
Hey will, thanks for your reply....I just checked the manual and it appears all the mic inputs double as line ins. There is no option to switch between the two, so unless I'm overlooking something, i'm guessing it should be ok?
Perhaps because the unit records to tape it can accept higher signals without being blown to ****? See page 5 here: http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ELE...III_manual.pdf |
Re: Connecting 11r to four track
Thanks for the link to the manual. Be sure to read page 11, which explains the inputs a little better.

It really doesn't have anything to do with the unit using tape. The line inputs are properly padded to accept the hotter signal; the 11R in this case. |
