very slow start up

Hello,
i had this issue with 8 as well.. when i launch Protools it takes a fairly lengthy amount of time to look for plugins and boot up . Once finshed loading it works fine.. If i shut the program down ..then load it up again, it loads super quick. Just wondering why this happens? Is it possible to speed up the initial launch?

For my setup i have protools running of an internal drive but I am currently using a usb line for an external drive which i record audio onto. In the near future i will have another internal drive for the audio.

I tried launching with or without this external drive and noticed no difference in terms of speed.

Im finding the same problem here. Its taking me 5 minutes to start up for the first time. I reinstalled all my plugs, and I trashed the prefs. Not sure of what else I should do to make it start faster.

Re: very slow start up

This is normal!

it's only the 1st time and after this it should be fine.
what's 5 mins to get a stable daw after that? Great excuse for a cup of java :D

only after a plugin update it might take a bit longer again.

cheers,
Mark

Re: very slow start up

Hmmm... Every time I power on my computer it takes 5 mins to start Pro Tools, not just after a plugin update. Or are you saying its normal every time I start my computer to take this long? I dont remember 6.4 (the last time I had Pro Tools on PC) taking that long to start.

Re: very slow start up

no, THAT is not normal.
Have you tried trashing all prefs?

Re: very slow start up

Do you have tons of plugins? The initial slow loading time might be the re-authorization of everything because you deleted your prefs or installed upgrades to PT.

For example, I have the Waves Gold bundle and whenever I upgrade or crossgrade PT, the initial load time always takes significantly longer. As mentioned above however, after that, load time should greatly improve.

Note, trashing prefs or modifying/deleting/upgrading PT files can also result in your slow load time first time around.

PT will go through the slow 'first load' sequence each time its slate is wiped clean or rebooted.

Anything after this...something be wrong friend. IMO

Re: very slow start up

Hi again. Yah, I tried trashing all the prefs, no difference. Weird. I dont have that many plugs (all legit, no cracks). I have maybe 10-15 plugs installed that arent the ones that come with Pro Tools. This is also a fairly fresh install of Windows 7.

I did some timings on the start up times:

After restarting the computer:

1st Pro Tools start up: 4 mins 26 seconds
2nd Pro Tools start up: 38 seconds
3rd Pro Tools start up: 40 seconds

I then restarted my computer and did the timings again:

1st Pro Tools start up: 4 minutes 12 seconds
2nd Pro Tools start up: 40 seconds
3rd Pro Tools start up: 39 seconds

This was the time it took to get from clicking on the icon to the "Quick Start" screen.

It does seem the first start up is scanning the plugs very slowly. When I first noticed this I went through and reinstalled every 3rd party plug with freshly downloaded installers (to make sure I had the latest versions) and trashed the prefs. I also did a fresh reinstall of Pro Tools. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help everyone,
Michael

This Is Normal ! :) I face the same situation .. and this only occurs with Pro Tools on a PC Based system never on a MAC !

PT 9 launches in seconds on my Macbook Pro which have much lower specs than my Desktop based PC and with the same plugins on both .... it takes from 3 to 5 minutes to load on my PC every time :)

Cheers

Re: very slow start up

I'm experiencing the same problem (among others). I never had the problem on xp and pt 8. On xp it would take a long time to load ONLY after deleting prefs or adding a new plugin. Then it would take around 30 seconds every other time. NOW it takes at least 3 minutes to start EVERY time I first turn on pro tools after a restart. Definitely annoying. Would love to see this fixed.
