MTRX vs DAD AX32 same firmware???
 

Hey all,
Looking for some info.
I have a DAD AX32 with digilink. Is it exactly the same as the MTRX minus the gold faceplate?
Can this run MTRX firmware in order to use the Avid MTRX cards?
DAD has all the cards as well but they are more $$$ and take longer to receive.
Lots of different opinions out there. Just looking for some definitives..

The firmware for the DAD AX32 and MTRX are now just one file.

Funny you should say the DAD AX32 cards cost more. I’m also in LA and they definitely cost less than the Avid branded ones. Plus you can get line-in only models of the cards (which can be “upgraded” to mic cards with a purchased license). Avid doesn’t offer this.

Don’t know about the new digilink cards. Avid and DAD have been cagey about if the cards are firmware/serial locked to models (which they can still be even if the base unit runs the same firmware.) They were cagey about the SPQ card versions too (non Avid was a few hundred dollars cheaper and available sooner.) I think (pure conjecture) that the AX32 might be locked out since (A) DAD aren’t selling one self-branded for the AX32 and (B) the agreement deal between Avid and DAD seems to be strictly about DAD only being able to sell non-digilink models of the AX32.

Maybe call plus24 (DAD’s distributor) who is in LA and ask to borrow a digilink card for demo and see if it works.

The AX32 and MTRX firmware file is the exact same but there may be slight differences in the functionality of the firmware depending on whether it is downloaded into a MTRX or AX32.

The DigiLink card will not be available for the AX32.

I recently purchased two AD cards and the SPQ card. The cards seem to be destined for the MTRX unit. I have the DAD-AX32 one. All cards fail on the Device List menu.

That is definitive.

Avid branded cards can NOT be used in an AX32, and likewise, AX32 cards can NOT be used in an MTRX.

If you have ordered MTRX cards then they will not work in your AX32.
