Need a new quieter fan to HD IO..

Hi!
I just got the HD IO to my mastering studio. But unfortunately the fan it's just too noisy. Maybe I should contact support, but hope that someone here has an idea of what to get as I think this is what it is and I need to buy a new one.

I live in Sweden, but I don't mind buying from the US if I can get a really nice quiet fan. I have read somewhere that there are some good silent fans out there. At least better than this one. I hope for the best, this just doesn't work anyhow. If anyone got an idea how to get a fan in Europe (in Sweden..), that would for sure be great. But it doesn't really matter, I just want a great and silent fan that fit and works perfect with the HD IO.

Appreciate any advice.

/G

Is the fan in the HD IO not a standard fan used in a regular PC build? There are tons of those available. I don't know myself cause I've never opened up my interface. (seriously asking, not being sarcastic.)

My HD IO is loud on startup but quiets down significantly about 3 seconds after I turn it on. Are you guys sure there isn't something wrong with your interface? Might be worth it to you to have it checked out.

I just got the new HD i/o as well and the fan isn't bad but I want it more quiet as well. I opened it up and found the specs on the fan and how easy it would be to switch out. The fan it comes with is part# F-8025M12B II @ http://www.cofan-usa.com/axial-fans/80x80x25-ii and is rated at 29.9 dB at max speed not to mention it seems to rattle a bit! I found a fan http://www.silenx.com/quiet.fans.asp?sku=efx-08-15
that has about the same flow rated at 15dB max speed which is WAY more quiet. They sell on newegg @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835226034
I think all that needs to be done is carefully take the connector off or splice in with the new fan since the one in the HD i/o has a 4 pin connector.

I'll try to report back in the next few days if it all works out.

Yeah I've been running the fan I mentioned previously since last year with no problems and it's way more quiet.

Thanks a million! That's very cool :-)

Would you (or anyone else) know if this is the same model fan as is found in the OMNI HD?

There is no way is the same since the omni is only 1U

Cool thanks for the clarification, nice to know the whole concept is possible either way.

All the best!

FYI, I have a few of the silenX fans fabricated on my Mac pro 2 on the front and 1 on the rear with a control module for speed and it keeps my mac SUPER cool, and super quiet.
