Updating from 2019 .5 to 2019.6?

In order to correct the problem that Avid had with the possible deletion of projects with version 2019.5, do I really need to uninstall before installing 2019 .6? I never have uninstalled before going to the next version. I would prefer not to uninstall this time either. Thanks

Right. As a Windows user, I always do a complete uninstall first.

Well I guess you can go either way. What I think... I've experienced whenever I have uninstalled is that I lose some of the plugins that possibly came with whatever version I had prior to it. So I never uninstall, I just install over the old version and I have never had a problem. I was just curious if Avid "recommended" to uninstall 2019.5 because of this specific issue. I just installed the new version over the old and everything seems to be working great.

As said, on Mac the PT app is self-contained, has everything in the app package -- except support files, such as preferences and such and even then the only problem is if newer version stops using a file that was needed for older version in which case that file is left there doing nothing.. not much of a problem with the storage capacity today. Every time you launch PT the app copies over all included plugins so you don't even need to worry about plugin versions.

Re: Updating from 2019 .5 to 2019.6?

I've posted on this forum before about the Avid Cloud and how it doesn't seem to be working properly.

To summarise I have 2 projects in the cloud but the cloud thinks I have 3 and is maxed out. As a result I can't fully upload my 2 projects to the cloud due to space.

I want to go to 2019.6 so that I can use local projects without fear of them disappearing. My problem is that I can't uninstall 2019.5 as this will presumably remove the local versions of my 2 cloud projects and I'll lose them and be left with whatever has been partially uploaded to the cloud (as far as I can see I have no way of seeing what's up there).

When I select Manage My Avid Cloud it tells me its full and has 3 projects yet when I open PTF I only see 2. It did have 3 before but I deleted 1 to make room (big mistake as the 3rd project was no longer available to select but the cloud still thought it was up there). I've tried creating a case ticket but because I have PTF it just got cancelled. I'm using Windows10. Is there anyway I can move to 2019.6 and keep my existing cloud projects?

Also, and I've asked this before, is there anyway of getting my cloud instance "cleaned up" so it's not holding on to loads of space that I'm not using and so it knows that I only have 2 projects instead of 3?

I am on windows 7 and have installed over pre existing using App manager and now avid link since version 12.1. I am now on 2019.6 without issue.

If at all possible i would make a backup of your system first(good to do no matter what). You may or may not have to do a preferences trash and/or playback engine reset.

The problem is not with the system, it's to with the project files. I know that they're stored locally but if I install the new version will they be wiped out?

I also know that because the cloud is saying it's maxed out that my local projects may or may not be in the cloud in their entirety (I have no way of telling).

So, how do I get the cloud to behave so I can confidently install the latest version?
