Is Oxford 911 Chipset Really Necessary 4 Ext HD?

I want to be able to record and play with an external firewire/USB external hard drive. Other forums have suggested that if I don't, I'm asking for problems. What do u think?

I think the other forums are correct.

Stick with the Oxford 911.

Digi qualified the MusicXPC. How do I find out what firewire chipset are used on its mobo?

The 911 chipset is in the external hard drive enclosure, and wouldn't apply directly to the MusicXPC, but...

I would probably give musicxpc a call or email them to find out what components they are using. It would also be best to let them know that you will be using it for protools. They say they are "tweaked for music" but being tweaked for music and being tweaked for protools are two totally separate things.

I needed a good laugh tonight, Spk
I've had this box for almost a year. MusicXPC doesn't answer emails!
Even registering your serial number does not allow access to their tech support site either.
These guys are a joke, IMHO. Even Digi has a better reputation for getting back to you.
