Anyone using Soundgrid Studio still?

Is anyone using Soundgrid Studio still with DiGiGrid interfaces?

Outside of a HDX system, it still seems the best way to track with plugins at a low latency.

I'm curious to know everyone's experience and tips. I'm got a session coming up that I plan on using it with a personal monitor mixing system.

I just wanted to see if you encountered anything like that when you were testing.

I sold all the DiGiGrid stuff a while ago and have HDX instead. If you try and run any monitor mix through ProTools with StudioRack on a Rec Enabled channel (not in INPUT mode) you will see this latency in PT using DiGiGrid. This does not mean the monitor path has high latency though. Like HDX - DiGiGrid for live inputs only gives low latency when the signal path is through the eMotion mixer - not pro tools. You may tap ProTools channels but these will all have to have StudioRack plugins set to Input mode. Then you need to map things from these StudioRacks to eMotion to physical outputs. Then control most things in eMotion. It works and you will get low latency with all the Waves plugs but it is a tedious thing to set up and run (IMO).

Best of luck...

Thanks for the reply.

I'm pretty familiar with the configuration, but my issue runs a little deeper.

Everything operates ok despite the higher latency until you start overdubbing using pre roll.

When you initiating recording with pre roll, the track you're recording starts playing back without delay compensation and then everything else is delayed. This presents series issues with time.

I'll note, I copied the same session to Studio One and have not had this issue. (The latency compensation is much less too.) It seems to be isolated to Pro Tools and StudioRack integration.

Btw...are you completely off Soundgrid period?

Given the recent changes in HD pricing, etc...HDX is looking for appealing these days.

Yes - off SG since last spring.

So latency on SG - this should never be an issue in INPUT mode right?
As far as latency through SG and PT this should be more about the buffer size than anything else. I used to measure at 96kHz something like
StudioRack in INPUT mode = 1.2ms
SR not in InputMode monitor through PT 96k/64buffer = 4.1ms

So regardless of the delay comp value - when monitoring I never saw any of that show up in RTL (and it was like 3 or 4 thousand samples).

Assuming one has an HD license -
HDX card used close to $2K.
Hard to see that as a barrier :-)
But HDX has its own pluses and minuses as this month I have to donate $400 for keeping my HD plan up to date!

Latency on input mode is fine. The issue is only with the latency (or lack thereof) with pre recorded material on the track being overdubbed.

This is obviously only an issue using Soundgrid mode.

With the plugins I'm using, there is zero latency in CPU mode minus DAW buffer, etc...

Not sure I totally get it but haven't used SG since PT11 so this maybe a new PT12 issue with them... best of luck.

Here is the video showing the issue.

I've submitted it to Waves and it's being addressed.

Seems to be resolved for now.
