PTMP 8.0.3, PT Crash When Dragging Groove from BFD2 into PT Region Editor

I'm running XP SP3 32-bit, with BFD2 v2.1.0.47. I recently upgraded to PTMP 8.0.3, and found an interesting bug this week. This was not an issue on previous versions.

When my BFD2 window overlaps the PT window, I can drag grooves from the groove editor directly into the PT region editor just fine.

If the BFD2 window does not overlap the PT window, then dragging the groove from BFD2 into the PT editor causes PT to hang, and gives the following error message:

Access violation occurred, unable to read location: 0x00000000 at address: 0x00993EE3 in module: DFW.dll

I also get the same issue if for some reason I drag the BFD2 groove in any place not over the PT region edit window; i.e. over PT that is not part of the Region Editor, such as over the Mix window, over the desktop (as in if the BFD2 window doesn't overlap the PT window).

So far, I've found the issue to be 100% reproducible. The workaround is to make sure that BFD2 always overlaps the PT editor when moving grooves into PT. However, as this is an important part of my workflow, I'd like to see it corrected. I'm not sure whose issue this is, so I've cross-posted it over at FXPansion's web site. My suspicion is that since DFW.dll belongs to ProTools, that it would be Didigdesign's issue.

Thanks.

SiSoftware Sandra

Re: PTMP 8.0.3, PT Crash When Dragging Groove from BFD2 into PT Region Editor

Hi,

I would like to help figure out what is going on with your system/sessions.

In Pro Tools 8.0.3, we added better and more robust logging to help track down problems like the one you are seeing. When Pro Tools crashes, some information about the crash is written out to a log file. The log files are kept in the "LogFiles" folder that is next to the Pro Tools application.

Here's what you need to do...

1) Reproduce the crash you are seeing.
2) Look in the LogFiles folder and find the latest log file. The file name ends with .dlog
3) Email this "dlog" file to vi -at- digidesign -dot- com. Please include your DUC user name and the hyper-link to this DUC thread (http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=262158) so we can track which post this came from.

Please put my name in the subject line of the email.

Thanks!

Any word on this yet? It looks like someone is having the same issue, but with Superior drummer. http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=264290

Also, I've confirmed that the same issues exists when using XP SP3 or W7-64.
