Presonus FireStudio and PT11
Will Presonus FireStudio work with Pro Tools 11 on an Apple? A buddy of mine is selling two for a very good price, but he uses **base. Also can I use it with my existing Steinberg UR22?

Re: Presonus FireStudio and PT11
Check the Presonus website to see if you can find what OSX version(s) can work with the FS. Just my 2 cents, but I had one of them and found it somewhat of a PITA to set up, and it sounded no better than my 003.

Re: Presonus FireStudio and PT11
How does the 003 sound? What is best interface to get for the best price. I would love to have 12 inputs for a live situation, but 8 would do.

New interface suggestions.
I'm looking to replace my Steinberg UR22 with an interface with more inputs and outputs. What is a good sounding interface for the least amount of money? I can't quite get a 48 channel Neve board yet :/ lol

the Saffire series (Firewire/Thunderbolt) and the Scarlett series (USB). The Saffires are widely, successfully used by Pro Tools pros. Saffire Pro 26 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SaffPro26 Saffire Pro 40 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SaffPro40 The Scarletts are really nice ones with Mac too, plug and play, no driver needed (unfortunately not recommended with Windows due to massive driver issues). The Scarlett 18i8 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett18i8 The Scarlett 18i20 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett18i20 Good quality yet affordable ones might be found at Motu as well. Motu 4pre http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/4pre Motu 8pre USB http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/8preUSB Motu 828Mk3 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/828mk3Hy Presonus got some. Presonus FireStudio Project http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FireStuProj Presonus Audiobox 1818 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioBox1818 Finally a very affordable and recent one from M-Audio. M-Audio M-Track 8 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MTrack8 I personally think you could get happy with one of the Focusrites (Saffires or Scarletts) as they offer great audio- and build quality for the price. Anyway you may find the one suits best for you and your system. The very best to you! |
Re: New interface suggestions.
I would advise you have a look at Apogee products !! The best there can be !

Unfortunately the most affordable units are the Apogee One and the Apogee Duet and both offer only 2 inputs/outputs (Duet offers 4 outs incl. headphones). The OP already has had the Steinberg UR22 which has 2 inputs/outputs as well and he was asking for an interface Quote:
The next higher level Apogee unit, the Quartet, which offers 4 inputs/6 outputs (more outs incl. ADAT and headphones out) already costs $1495.- which definitely is not affordable. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Quartet Donīt get me wrong, itīs worth every penny, I know that because I had one for 3 years and still love it a lot! On the other hand this is no "for the least of money"-unit. Even more Apogeeīs multichannel units like the Ensemble Thunderbolt or the Symphony which start at $2000.- initially. If one can afford it, Apogee is one of the finest gear one can get but itīs not the best bang for the buck for sure. ;) Thatīs why I excluded Apogee from the recommended list above. Cheers. |

As mentioned there you might look into the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 or the Scarlett 18i20. Those are reliable, very good sounding and do work very well with Pro Tools and Mac. |
