Plan for Annual Upgrades and Support: Reinstate or Renew?
 
Hi all:

We just (December 18th) purchased and activated a further Pro Tools 12 HD perpetual license for our facility. It’s a „Software Only“ package and currently provides access to downloads for Pro Tools 12.8.1 installers and all the bling.

However, a Plan for Annual Upgrades and Support Plan for Pro Tools HD does not seem to be included - at least it doesn’t show anywhere.

My question: To add the Plan for Annual Upgrades and Support Plan for Pro Tools HD do I need to get the Reinstatement Plan, or the Renewal Plan? Technically I am neither re-instating, nor renewing.

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

Was this a new license? Sounds like you bought a used license with a ilok transfer. You should have access to 12.8.3 not 12.8.1 if it was new. If it was new, it includes 1 year support (no need to buy anything else for now.)

In your ilok account, you should have a license that says "Pro Tools HD Plan" with a little green box next to it with a curved arrow. And that should have a expiration date listed 1 year from the date your new license was activated.

I am assuming that it is a used license as I received an activation code only.

Yes, the iLok account shows the HD Plan with the expiration date a year from the activation date.

If I understand the diplomatics correctly than the HD Plan (which is part of the software purchase) gives me access to the HD plugins and related stuff but not to any updates, while the so called Annual Upgrades and Support Plan gives me updates and support. Or are the HD Plan and the Annual Upgrades and Support Plan the same thing?

So, if I don’t buy that Annual Plan I don’t get updates and support. I think one could live without this, at least without the support…………….. ;-)

But just in case we decide the purchase an annual plan, it’s perhaps the reinstatement plan, as opposed to the renewal plan.

And what’s the state once the now active HD Plan expires a year from now - just native plugins and D-Verb? ;-)

For Pro Tools HD, Yes. (except there is a plugin bundle license you can buy separately which give you access to more plugins on a subscription basis.)

Seems this is a screw up in the Avid/ilok system. I would not buy anything right now and let Avid sort it out as jeffro seems to have already started that for you.

The weird thing is though that upon logging into the Master Account today 12.8.3 shows available for download. Yesterday 12.8.1 was the latest version available......

@BScout: Thanks for your input as well, hope for jeffro's initiative to sort things.
