AVID: PLEASE HELP: Mbox Mini (3rd Gen) not showing up
 

A PLEA TO AVID TECH SUPPORT!

I sold my 003 Rack+ today as I am moving overseas in a few weeks.. I still have some work to finish on my PT9 machine so I thought I would just plug in my Mbox Mini 3 and keep working.

Apparently that is all too hard for Pro Tools!

I have spent the last 2 hours downloading drivers, installing drivers, restarting, uninstalling drivers, restarting, re-installing drivers, restarting, more restarting... and still nothing!

I cannot for the life of me get this silly waste of money to work. I mean seriously how hard could it be for you to build *1* driver for your interfaces?? Separate drives for Mbox mini / Mbox / Mbox Pro / 002 / 003 ??!! I'm sure the reason half this stuff never works is its completely confused about what interface should be running on what driver!!

Can you please explain to me how to get this working? I've searched the forums and tried all the reinstalling jargon to no avail.

My setup:

Mac Quad 2.66Ghz / 9Gb RAM
OSX 10.6.3
Pro Tools 9.03
Worked fine with 003 Rack +
Cannot get Mbox Mini 3 running..

PLEASE HELP!

Sorry Henry, this is a User Forum so Avid CS doesn't monitor every thread.

Following the link on the Drivers page leads to kb374271 which has the driver for the Mbox Mini (3rd gen).

After completing the installation launch Pro Tools 9 and hold N when you see the splash screen (until the Playback Engine window opens). This should allow you to select the Mbox Mini. Check out kb381749.

Hi. Thanks for your response.

The thing is, i've done ALL of that. Downloaded the Mbox Mini (3rd Gen) drivers three different times just to be sure... installed and it didn't work.. uninstalled, reinstalled and still didn't work.

Just tried it all again and nothing... held down "N" while PT9 is booting and it gives me no option to select the Mbox Mini 3.

I'm at a real loss here. After spending some time searching google, it seems that this is a real issue with the Mbox Mini 3. There are plenty of people experiencing the same problems... some get it worked out, others don't.

How else can this be fixed?

FWIW, i just randomly stumbled upon the "Avid Mbox Mini" icon in the Prefs window of mac os. I had no idea to look there, as the 003 is controlled from an app found in the Digi folder. Again, thank you for the lack of consistency between products :-/

There is blue light on the front of the Mbox Mini so I know that it is connected to the mac, yet the Mbox Mini pref window says "Hardware Not Connected"!

This is so lame......... Seriously.

I think it's going to take an complete re-install of my mac OS to get this going.

What an absolute waste of money.

Sorry you are still having trouble.

Is it listed on a USB Bus in System Profiler under Hardware > USB?

We checked your registration and see Mbox 2 Pro and Mbox 2 Micro listed, but no Mbox Mini (3rd gen). When did you purchase it?

Well it seems like many others I have read about online that the Mini is in fact DOA. I have tried 5 different USB cables on 3 different computers and it says "Hardware not connected" on all of them. I know for a fact that it worked on my laptop as I used it a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it's not working there now either.

It's a pity as it's not been used more than 3 or 4 times.

I purchased it from GC in Phoenix, AZ in September 2011. I will follow up with them and see if I can get a hold of my receipt.

You only saw the Mbox2Pro and mbox 2 micro?? I guess I just never registered it... or my 003 Rack+, Mbox 1, PT HD3, 4x 192 I/O's, 4x 192AD's and 4x 192DA's!!! Or my HDX upgrade I just ordered through Sweetwater??!

Be great if this little box could live again...

I am having a very similar problem! I can see my Mbox (3rd gen) which is a good start, but it just says <error encoding> in the 'Input' box under the I/O in the mix window. In other words I have no ability to record either. Have done about 6 clean installs, including re installing the 'NEW' MBOX driver several times.
