Video Engine Error (and log?)

10.8.4
11.0.3.14
2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
16GB RAM - 1066 MHz DDR3

ATI Radeon HD 4870:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120:

I'm getting a very frustrating error, that is repeatable if I have a selection - see linked screen capture. If I have a clip selected (or any selection even if it doesn't contain a clip) I get this error. But you'll see that if I remove the selection I no longer get the error. This is horribly frustrating as having selections is critical when editing.

I've tried turning on & off GPU, tearing, and setting the video start delay to every setting, as well as toggling the video hardware on & off.

I just have the graphics cards listed above and am using 3 monitors.

This is the error dialog, and I can't find any "Video Engine Log File:

Re: Video Engine Error (and log?)

The PT11 Video Engine is borked. If you need to work with video (or OMFs), you'll be better off sticking with PT10 as there are significant bugs with both in PT11. Hopefully they'll get it ironed out in an update soon.

OK found the log file, for anyone looking it's here:

>>> <user>
>>>> Library
>>>>> Logs
>>>>>> Avid
>>>>>>> VideoEngineLog.txt

And the error it reports is:

"Dec 7, 2013 9:06:07 PM Message: Loop pre-roll, in point, and out point provided by Pro Tools must all reside within the sequence."

Pre roll and post roll were both 1 second, and loop playback was on. If I turn off Loop playback it works even with a selection. Turning Loop BACK on and the error comes back.

Also, I can have Loop ON, IF I turn off Pre/Post roll.

So the deadly combo here is to have Pre/Post roll on AND also Loop playback, at least here, in this situation.

Rebooting the Mac - same result.

BTW - video codec - Motion JPEG A
