Ahhhhh, interesting. I'd seen a note about stability of the AAX cache, I didn't realise all this though, thanks.

They're referring to how Pro Tools builds its AAX plugin database cache when launching and loading newly added plugins. 2023.12 improved it so it doesn't crash PT at launch when there may be 200 newly installed plugins all at once for it to cache. I have no idea what PT Prefs would even have to do with the AAX plugin cache. Especially after the fact that the cache-crash issues is now solved (gone now are the days of having to rebuild that cache by booting in batches of 30 or so active plugins at a time).

AAX Plug-in Cache Improvements
  • Quicker launch when many plugins are first cached.
  • Fixed a crash that can happen during launch when many plugins are first cached.
  • If a crash occurs during launch, on the next launch the plug-in cache creation/update will pick up where it left off.
  • The cache has been moved to a shared user location so that it does not need to be generated separately for each user account on the computer.

This one is very useful to know. I'll check it ut.

Yup, very very useful. The way the AAX cache works has completely changed. It's in a different location and it's built as separate cache files per plugin now, not as one big merged file.

Thanks again,.
Pete

Hey Scott,
Thanks, no problem! I've been hoping to release an update for quite a while but real life has intervened like it often does for all of us. Soon though.

Cheers,
Pete

Hey Pete -- I just downloaded PT Prefs 2 from your site and it's V 2.2.1. This version does not have a way to restore individual preference files, only the whole enchilada (if that's not accurate please correct me, but I couldn't find a way to handpick single items).

I actually have Ver 2.5.1 installed here (can't remember how I got it) and the Restore tab has an Advanced button which allows individual files restoration. This seems fully necessary and it was the sole reason I'd continued using V1, because it allowed you to choose.

Is 2.5.1 going to be made available soon? I'm just curious about this feature, which seems important.

The link to the beta is found in this thread posted by Pete (vs going to Pete's official webpage which downloads the release version)

Ah yes I see it now (all I had to do was go back one page haha).

I believe some PT folder hierarchies (e.g. plugin cache) changed a bit since that version was released so I was curious to know if this version is accommodating everything that changed in PT 2024.3.

Pete's last posted beta is before the 3/2024 change so the answer would be no. He does know though (as seen in his posts)

Re: New PT Prefs helper

Yes, I have PT 2024.3 and have a bit of time coming up and I'll be getting across the recent changes and some other requests.

Cheers,
Pete
