Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaias

Can't say it hasn't been interesting. First this covid-19 stuff and now this storm coming up the US east coast. Looks like NJ is going to get hit hard with the storm appearing to track further west into Pennsylvania. Which means those of us in NJ will be on the side more prone to tornadoes if I'm right. I'm in Trenton and watching this thing like a hawk.

Had to cancel my long awaited dental appointment for tomorrow. Can't believe they're still seeing patients on Tuesday as when I talked to them this morning. This appointment was supposed to happen in February and between dislocating my left knee & covid-19 things got put off. Now scheduled for September 28.

Waiting to see if NJ governor will call a state of emergency for the storm - hasn't yet. Went to get gas in my Jeep Wrangler so if we need to boogie the three of us (me, wife & cat) can get out. Hopefully not.

Hopefully the power will stay up with the new substation that was put in to service in January. The ups's around here are having a heck of a time keeping up with the brownouts happening already. Like one of the fellows that came out to fix our chimney a few years back said: every time a mouse farts the power goes out around here.

So if anyone needs/wants my help please understand that I've got more important things to tend to. See you on the other side of this mess.

Update:
Made it through okay for the most part. A lot of wind and rain but mostly as separate events. A lot of tree deadfall. Sat on the front porch with the wife watching the storm. Scary like you wouldn't believe. No tornadoes but straight line winds. Couple of power blinks but I'd had everything shut down and unplugged before things got too severe. Governor did put out a state of emergency at 5AM; wouldn't have known about it if I wasn't on Twitter yesterday morning before things got nasty.

I'm further up the coast in CT and we had trees and lines down all over. Power was out here for a bit over 24 hours:o Hope you made it thru unscathed!

Personally unscathed. Trees - not so much. Wife and I spent almost 3 hours cleaning up the deadfall this afternoon. House and music space intact. Nerves are another matter.

Glad you guys made it thru the storm OK. We are used to tropical systems down here near the coast, but that doesn't make them less scary. The longest I was without power was 10 days after Hurricane Ike in 2008. You really appreciated refrigerators and air conditioning when the power returns.

The longest we were out in Trenton was 3 days during Superstorm Sandy. Had a freezer full of home made food. Thankfully we kept the freezer door shut and only ate canned food - we'd prepped ahead knowing what might come. Everything survived. Having a huge block of ice in a Tupperware container helped keep things cold as well.

Did candle light dinners and used a welding sparker to light the gas cooktop. Poor kitten we had just taken in was scared and literally tried climbing the walls. Other funny thing was FEDEX was still making deliveries that day - that's when I got the iMac that's in my profile page. We were his last delivery as he'd just gotten a call to return to his depot.

Thanks. We got lucky - other parts of NJ - not so much.

Interesting doesn't even begin to describe this year so far.
