DIGI001 / DELL Optiplex 780

Does the DIGI001 PCI-card fit on the motherboard of a Dell Optiplex 870 Minitower or Desktop models .

Possibly buying such a pc for cheap ... so just to be sure before the deal .

Did you mean 870? 780 doesn't show up in a google search:o The 780 comes with Windows 7 and that will not work(even if the card fits). You need Windows XP(probably impossible to find and completely unsupported). Then you need a PCI slot(not PCIe) which does exist on certain versions of the 870, and you also need Pro Tools LE software version 6.4 or older(again, gonna be tough to get).

Just an opinion, but if you want to run Pro Tools, its time to up your game to a modern computer and much newer software, all around(I would not suggest Pro Tools 9 or older, stick with 10 and newer). If you just need to record on the cheap, grab any current(and inexpensive) interface that suits your IO needs and get Reaper(its free to try and cheap to buy) or grab Pro Tools First(also free but limited, but does require an iLok 2/3). Food for thought:o

@Albee

PS. PT|First doesn’t require an iLok key FWIW

Yes ... It is a 780 / small Desktop model .

I'm mainly interested will the DIGI001 PCI-Card fit physically in the slots of this PC .

The PC is meant to be working in a horizontal position, but it can also be set up
working on its' side . Make any sense ... ? Tried to translate this from a finnish forum so excuse me if my language is not quite there .

And yes I will mainly be working on Windows 7 x86 / 32 Bit with REAPER as my main DAW ... and DIGI001 Drivers are tested and working on a 32 Bit version of Windows 7 .

Why are you going to be using or trying to use an almost 20 year old interface when you can get much better for not a lot of money that will be USB?

It's just, that I already have / own the DIGI001 and a Nady PRA-8 8-Channel Pre-Amp and possibly investing in a Behringer ADA8000 / ADA8200 .

I would just like to take the DIGI001 as well as the Nady to my new "Drum Room", which is located nearby to where I live .

In my "main studio" / at home I have a PreSonus FIRESTUDIO project
as well as a TASCAM US-16x08 and Pro Tools 11 .

I'd possibly be tracking my acoustic drum kit on Cockos REAPER on Windows 7 32 Bit or possibly go back to as retro as XP and Pro Tools LE 6.4 or hell ... even Windows 98 and Pro Tools 5 .

I know this sounds crazy, but just trying to make up use for all the stuff, that I own .

Re: DIGI001 / DELL Optiplex 780

So the real question is are you saying the 001 is as good as the Firestudio or that the Firestudio is as bad as the 001?

Never use a good enough recording medium unless you have to, in other words if you are going to record in two locations why not let them have the same quality?

Using something just because it's laying around when you have other means should be something you pass on.

A great performance is something you always want to capture in the best way you have available since you never know when they will happen.

Affordable tech has made that pretty much a nonfactor.

EVERY time someone comes to the duc for some advice on using older hardware, like the 001, it seems like most replies are focused on how bad that gear is and making the person looking for help feel stupid. The OP's question was simple. He doesn't need the ridicule.
