Shure KSM44 vs Neumann TLM 103, TLM 49?

I'm in the market for ~$1,000 mic for rock/acoustic roc vocals and also to be used on acoustic guitar (for same style).

I heard the Shure KSM44 and it sounded pretty good. But then I always hear to get a Neumann if at all possible because they're "the best" (although I've never heard one personally). Any idea how the TLM 103 compares to the KSM44 (they are both at thr $1,000 price mark).

But I'm also seeing that Neumann has just come out with a $1,500 mic, the TLM 49. Any comments on it?

Lastly, how much do you think I need to spend on a tube preamp to take advantage of these mics, $500 is what I'm thinking. Hopefully you won't tell me I need to spend too much more. Of course, the more the better in most cases. Regarding preamps in general, what brands do you like?

Thanks for any input,
Ron

For male vocals I use a sm7b. It rocks with a UA 610. Throw in an AT 4050 and you have vocals and acoustic guitar covered. If you really want a neumann I suggest trying one out before spending all that money. It might not be what you want. No one mic will be perfect for every vocal, but If it's only going to be used on your voice, I would definitely try it out.

Would be a pity to spend all that money and it just doesn't work with your voice.

I don't know about the microphones, but the only tube preamp I'd recommend for around that price would be the Groove Tubes "The Brick." It's a solid single-channel tube pre for a very reasonable price. It also works very well as a DI for recording bass.
