CD burning question

Hey all! This isn't exactly PT related but I figured you all would know. I have a Marantz stand alone burner that's about 4 years old. The record fuction doesn't work. I also have a Quefire 16x burner that i usually use with Toast. My question is, before I shell out the cash to fix the Marantz, is there a differnce in audio quality between burning a CD in real time on something like the Marantz vs. burning something at 16x? Thanks!

Re: CD burning question

Most definitely. Higher burn speeds mean more errors. Whether or not it will be a factor depends on the quality fo the media used and the burner.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: CD burning question

I honelstly wouldn't bother with fixing the marantz. Sounds to me like a consumer CD player that can record CDs. Marantz is a good consumer product..but if you can already burn CDs with a computer oriented CD burner, that can burn at any rate you selct....I'd just go with that. The quality of burning doesn't really change between brands. Just between the amounts of error which is caused more by speed of burning. 2-4x is ideal.
