New to -9173 error

I haven't visited the AVID community board for a while cause I've been happily running 2018.4 for the last couple of years. I used it on an older MacBook pro 2011, a new Macbookpro 2019 (2.8 ghz) and even a hackintosh 6core. All good.

Finally decided to upgrade to 2019.10 a couple of days ago. Upgraded first on my new macbook pro. Now sessions that were working fine just a day ago, constantly give me -9173 errors. Sometimes after the error the audio becomes distorter kinda sounds like weird pulse wave and the only way to fix is to change buffer size (either higher or lower value, doesn't matter). Same happens on the hackintosh. I tried updating all of my plugins, tried isolating plugins, still nothing. Tried reverting back to 2018.4 and still get errors. Used it with my Apollo twin, and native audio, no difference.

Really frustrating. Anybody have a recommendation?

Hi preferences trashed ? Also, can you try removing all the plugins from the plugins folder ?

Yes tried trashing the preferences as well.
What would removing plugins accomplish? If I need to use them in my session...

Well is just a step in order to reduce trigger factors. You might want to remove them if there is no 9173 error then start to add them by groups again until you see the error.

Plugins causes havoc even if they are not in a session. Just sitting in the plugin folder will be enough to cause issues. That is the same as having the culprit plugin (if that is the problem here) instansiated in a session so if you suspect a bad plugin (old or demo that has run out) then you should removed all plugins, trash preference file .plist and restart computer. PT plugins will be added again automatically as rarely they are the problem and then add like 5 at a time and start close and start the session again and do that over and over until a bat h of plugins just added starts causing issues. That way you know which one is bad.

It does take some time as you have to restart your session everytime you add a batch of plugins but rather that tile spent finding the culprit than having the pesky errors every session and screwing up the workflow.

mistake number 1........NEVER upgrade if you have important ANYTHING to do.....otherwise.........if your version is working perfectly, dont touch it, or the operating system . freeze the whole thing, and you'll be 5000% happier, than getting a 'free' plugin or something....

Hey also comes to mind. Check you task manager window. Sometimes when i got the 9173 and i check there, PT was searching in background for a missing file. So be shure nothing is happening in background there.

Thank you for responding, after taking out all plugins and putting them back in the folder, think I nailed down the culprit to PSP BussPressor, strange cause they just release an update for this plugin... but older version still gave me problems... emailed the company hopefully they'll fix it as it is one of my fav buss compressors and I use it on almost all my sessions :)
