Bounce to quicktime: audio gradually misaligns

Just started my first film score in Pro Tools HD today. Worked on one scene, about 5 minutes and did a bounce to quicktime. Upon viewing in quicktime (through core audio) I noticed the audio was inline at the top of the piece but by the end was off by around 1 second. And this is based upon my score plus the dialog that came with the video. Here are the specs:

DV Stream NTSC, 48k session, PT 7.3.1, OS 10.4.11, Digi 192. I also was running video out firewire (manually offset video to adjust) but even if this was the problem, the issue would be consistent, not continually worsening with time. Thoughts?

Thanks, i'll double check the session. But, if the frame rate was off in PT, wouldn't the preview playback in PT be out of sync as well? Right now, everything syncs perfectly within PT but the issue pops up when the video is exported.

Hi,

I am able to BTQT in 7.3.1cs7 in OS 10.4.11 on a Mac Pro HD|2 no problem.

Things to look out for:

  1. Frame rate of session, QT, and Created QT are the same
  2. Do not SRC, this can cause drift
  3. I have not had success past QT 7.2 and thus I stay there
  4. No pull down or pull up is engaged unless you need it to be in which case, I don't think BTQT will work right.
  5. I have had best success not converting to other codecs either -- I do that later in QT Pro.
  6. Switch to TC, go into grid mode and make a selection Frame to Frame that is within the boundaries of the QT, anything beyond causes problems.
I suspect your problem is 2 or 6.

I was working with a 32khz dv file. Pulled that into my 48k PT session; could that be a problem? Or are you just talking about avoiding SRC when coming back out of PT at bounce time?

Also, i was using markers to set my start and stop boundaries. then end marker was for sure past the end of the video file. I'll have to go try bouncing just the length of the video... thanks

The latter. I think that is when it "scales" the audio to fit the QT, esp. since you went beyond the boundaries.

Let us know if you get it to work or not.

Awesome, bounced within the QT region, kept the sample rate and use no pull up/down and it's all good. It makes sense now that I think about it. I noticed, when playing past the QT region in PT remains displayed. But, it only bounce the length of the region so afterward it must have stretched the video out to match the audio length... Anyway, thanks for the help

Glad you found the solution and it was that easy.
