firewire connection to USB? Or Other?
I need help, or recommendations and your responses are appreciated, thanks in advance.
I have the MBox Pro Gen 3 interface which is a firewire connectivity. I now have to get a new computer (mine is 12 years old) and firewire is no longer included on computers. Is there a connector of some kind that will allow my firewire to connect to a USB port on the new computer? Or what other solutions are possible? Thanks. Bruce |
Re: firewire connection to USB? Or Other?
USB cannot be converted to Firewire.
Any computer with PCIe card slots can have a Firewire PCIe card installed in them. Any computer with Thunderbolt 1/2/3 can use a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. (Thunderbolt is *not* USB, even if it uses a USB-C connector) You need to be more specific. Are you on Windows or Mac? (Windows I assume from this forum, but please confirm--windows desktop or laptop choices with Thunderbolt are few and far between). Are you looking at desktop/deskside computers that have PCIe slots? ... what exact ones? ... Or is it time to replace the interface? |

I'm using a M.2 Key-M to PCIe x16 adapter and a firewire card, works great!!!

Re: firewire connection to USB? Or Other?
I recently bought a new computer and installed a new PCIe firewire card I bought online and have had no issues with it. For me there was no option because I needed to hook up an old DV deck that had firewire. For my purpose an adapter would not work. And personally I think it is a smart investment to just get a slot card and use the real deal.
