Somebody help? SCSI CD Burner freezing MAC

G4 466

adaptec 2930

external case with Panasonic CW 7502

It used to work but for some reason when I turn on the burner it locks up the system untill I turn it off and things run fine. I thopught I accedentally threw the drivers away but reinstalled driver and same thing happens. I had this problem with a SCSI Hard drive one time but I can't recall what I did to fix it. (maybe I threw it out the window)

I'm thinking of purchasing anothr one but I do not want the same problem. I think it happened when moving the computer to a different location.

Thank in advance for any reply. I NEED TO BURN CD'S!!

Hi,
Based on the fact that you moved this computer recently, I would check for bent pins on your connecting cable. If memory serves me, the 2940 have a very delicate pin assembly that is easily bent if not installed carefully.
Hope this helps,
Yorik

I had that same 2930 card, and a cranky Plexwriter.

Could be pin or loose card.

...flash P RAM (P,R, option, command) for three startup chimes?

If that fails, Yamaha 2100s are now $119. Use your old case.

Did you check the obvious? Make sure there are no ID conflicts in the chain.

It is the onle SCSI device and I did the P ram thing. I'll fidgit with the cable more and see. If not I'll get a new one I guess.
Thanks so far for the replys.

Hi,
It's not really a question of fiddling with it. You need to take it off, and examine the ends really carefully. It might not be immediately obvious that a pin has been pushed over and is making contact with another pin's seating.
Hope you figure your problem.
Peace,
Yorik
