Mac Mini Late 2012 with Mavericks OSX

Hello guys. I recently bought a mac mini and it came with OSX Mavericks. What would be the most suitable version on pro tools to work with?
I also owned a DIGI 002 Rack. Does anyone prove it with mavericks?
Thanks a lot.:-)

Re: Mac Mini Late 2012 with Mavericks OSX

I say go with PT 11. I'm on a late 2012 iMac with a 003 Rack. I just upgraded to Mavericks. No issues.
Not sure about 002 but I believe that will work. Others will chime in.

Only version supported with Mavericks is the PT11 (latest version is 11.1.2 and works great here with 10.9.2).

Re: Mac Mini Late 2012 with Mavericks OSX

I also use a Mini 2012 i7 Quad with Mavericks 10.9.2 and Pro Tools 11.1.2 and
Iīm happy to say it works flawlessly here.

Maybe you should check out/consider getting a fast OS drive
(HD 7200rpm or even better a SSD-256GB will be space enough)
if you havenīt ordered it with such one anyway
as this improves the overall performance a lot (the original HD is only 5400rpm).

Anyway, regarding the Digi002 you may have a look there:
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t...2+Pro+Tools+11
It seems, though some people are struggling getting it to work with PT11,
others definitely already have got it work well with the latest 003 drivers.
So it seems to be right possible. :-)

This link (drivers) is posted in the thread anyway but here once again:

Wishing you the best, much success,

VRW

You can. That's precisely what I did. :-)

Hello!

Just this last Sunday, I tried the DIGI 002 with Maverics and PT 10.3.6, on a 2009 MBP. The faders are responding, so I guess it's working.

I'll have to go get V 11 now (or should I?) ;)

Re the 7200 RPM drive; can you order the Mini with that from the store, or do you have to do the modification "privately"?

Thanx! :-)

Re: Mac Mini Late 2012 with Mavericks OSX

Hi, I will post you some more info as well as a bunch of useful links.

Here is the LE-Upgrade/Crossgrade page at the Avid store.
http://shop.avid.com/ccrz__ProductDe...t=&&store=shop

As long as you have the original serial no. of your LE there should be no problem actually.
What you definitely also will need to buy is an iLok 2 (if you havenīt got one already).
Since PT9 there ainīt serial numbers anymore but single licenses for PT
on an iLok.
The green iLok 1 doesnīt work unfortunately for Pro Tools 11 anymore as version 11
is 64bit now which iLok 1 canīt handle.
http://shop.avid.com/ccrz__ProductDe...t=&&store=shop

As to AAX plugs and Waves theoretically you could just update your Waves WUP plan,
download the Offline Installer of version 9 (Mavericks/AAX installation doesnīt work
via the Online Installer) and just install the AAX Native version of your Linear EQ/Comp etc.

All Waves plugins are available as AAX 64bit Native versions now which means
that you can use it without any problems because you are to run Pro Tools 11 Native
which is the replacement for LE.
http://www.waves.com/support/waves-update-plan
http://www.waves.com/downloads/v9

Just make sure to check the info about the new Waves licensing system.
http://www.waves.com/support/waves-license-center
Waves doesnīt use the iLok anymore, you will now have a "Cloud" where your
licenses will be stored by Waves and from there you will have to send the
licenses to an USB drive (can be any and with the lowest amount of space)
or to your Computer if you just want to authorize the machine.

Btw if possible anyway I would recommend the USB drive-version as it gives
you better flexibility.
If you ever may want to use Pro Tools incl. your Waves on another system
(maybe a Laptop etc.) you just can take the iLok and the USB drive and plug it
into the other machine and you are good to go.

If on the other hand it will be too much money for you at the moment to update your
Waves WUP plan you could get a collection of IK Multimedia plug ins which are very nice indeed,
all AAX, working flawlessly in PT11 (got it all on my system too) and, thatīs the point ;)
are on a great promotion deal until may 31st.
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/trgrandslam/

If, I would definitely recommend the Grand-version as there you got a lot for the
money. Dollar 149.- is a ridiculously low price for 16 plugs which are really nice ones
and you get all available as plugins as well as a standalone version for mastering
applications. Itīs a cool offer IMO.

If you can spend more money you can also check these Waves special offers which for sure
are interesting too (but donīt forget you also will have to update your WUP plan
before).
http://www.waves.com/specials

The only further plugin IMO you may need to start is any good reverb plug.
Everything else may be covered also by the plugs which come with Pro Tools 11
as there is some useable stuff Avid has packed into 11 :-).

There are 3 suggestions for low-cost but good AAX reverb plugs:
1. LiquidSonic Reverberate ... good quality convolution reverb, any IRs
can be used with it Dollar 85-130.-
http://www.liquidsonics.com/software_reverberate.htm
2. Softube TSAR-1R ... very good sound quality, easy to tweak Dollar 99.-
http://www.softube.com/index.php?id=tsar
3. IK Multimedia Classic Studio Reverb ... good quality, 4 modules Hall/Room/Plate/Inverse,
very versatile, many options Dollar 110.-
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/csr/

Manufacturers who provide AAX plugs are e.g.
http://mcdsp.com
http://www.waves.com
http://www.softube.com
http://www.plugin-alliance.com
http://www.hofa-plugins.de/pages/start_en.php
http://www.sonnox.com/pub/plugins/home.htm
http://www.ikmultimedia.com
and some more...here the complete list from Avid:
http://www.avid.com/plugins

These are 2 good sets of AAX-freebies:
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products..._FreewarePack/
http://hofa-plugins.de/pages/start_en/4u_en.php
and again some more...here the complete list at Pro Tools Expert:
http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/free...ools-plug-ins/

Finally a few final tips as there is
the probably nicest way to buy an iLok 2:
buy one Slate Audio single console emulation plug in for Dollar 49.-,
get an iLok 2 for free ;) (worth about the same amount of money)
http://www.slatedigital.com/online-shop/rc-tube
the plugin is not AAX yet but it will be in the future for sure as Slate Audio
is one of the most popular plugin brands at the moment in the Pro-scene

If you own plugins/VIs that are not AAX but there are 64bit-VST-versions of it
available you can use these in PT11 via those 2 plugins:
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_PatchWork/
...a very cool plugin which is able to host 64bit-VST-plugins/VIs in PT11 and
do parallel processing etc. Dollar 79.-
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_MB7Mixer/
... a Multiband Mixer plugin which can do the same and much more ;) Dollar 129.-

If you would consider replacing your Miniīs OS drive this one would be a good one...
http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Series-...ng+840+pro+256

Thatīs it for now. I hope this will give you all needed info.

All the best and a great time with your new system,

cheers, VRW

Hi, as far as I could see in the Apple Online Store it is not possible to order it
with a 7200rpm HD.
However you could order it with a 256GB SSD for 200.-+.

Btw as far as I have experienced Fusion Drives are not really recommended for the use with Pro Tools 11.
It may be working better with one single fast OS drive
and one or more additional external FW800 or Thunderbolt-drives with at least 7200rpm.

All the best, VRW
