Magic ID???

We are starting to get the following error message when opening files:

"Magic ID does not match".

I've asked a number of PT afficionados what this could mean and no one seems to know.

Power Mac G4, Protools 5.1.3 LE

Help!!!

Re: Magic ID???

This is a corrupt session file.
your only hope is to try and import the tracks to another new session.
IS this a TDM. Ive ran into this several times on a TDM system, never on a LE.

It's on an LE not TDM. I did find it in the DIgi Answerbase and you are of course correct. It's corrupt and only importing the tracks into a new session may be possible.

Thanks

Re: Magic ID???

This is probably too late and too obvious, but as PTLE session files (not the audio files) are tiny, I'm constantly making version backups as I work. I don't use the auto-save feature, as I like to control which session is saved, but its so easy and quick to do. You might want to make it part of your work flow.

Re: Magic ID???

It is a good idea to make the backups. The funny thing here is that of the 5 backups that were automatically saved, 2 of them have this error! So all was not lost, but I had never seen that error before, even in the 5 years we have had half a dozen Protools rigs.

Still, I'd like to know more about why it's called Magicc ID and not just a corrupt file.
