best deal on control surface for 002R

What would you suggest as a control surface for the 002 rack?

Big Budget. Euphonix MC series.

Mid range. Digi Command8.

Less than Midrange. CM Labs MotorMix.

There are other choices but these integrate well with Pro Tools

Definitely on a tight budget. i play mostly acoustic music, and i'm a high schooler majoring in music production at a performing arts high school.

MotorMixes run between 200.00 and 350.00 on ebay and are built like tanks. I have one with a 6.4/001 system. The last I knew they were working in PT8.0 but havent personaly tried using it.

I'm not sure whats out there under 350.00 these days

If you have an ipad there is V-control by Neyrinck $20 or $50. Supposed to be awesome... Im planning to try it out this week.

If you want the low end that works... And I do have colleagues who use it... There is the Beringher BCF2000. This reco comes from my amigos who also mix on a full bore 2 man icon.

Probably not in your budget but I have Tascam dm3200 that works great as a controller. I also have a Novation Nocturn for plug control, an Alphatrack, and a Faderport for quick and dirty single channel tweaks.

You have a lot of options... Fire up that Google!

Following up after reading your last post about a mixer, I would suggest you work with Protools and your new 002R for a while before plunking down more money on a control surface. Learn the mixer using the mouse for a while then you will get to know what you really need in a control surface. Then again for the type of music you are recording you may find that you can get your levels set and deal with plugin and all, without the need for a control surface. Either way give it a little time to learn and be well informed as to what features you really need.

Most control surfaces are MIDI or USB. It shouldn't be an issue as long as it supports Pro Tools.

These original MAckie Hui's can be a good deal. Sometimes they have a jittery fader issue as this one does but worth keeping your eyes peeled. They were the the first controller dedicated to work with Pro Tools. Lot's of functions, great monitoring section (has built in mic pre's which are not so great) but is BIG!
