Can you see MIDI notes that are being played in PT11?

I hate to make comparisons to other DAWs... But one thing i love about FL Studio is that when I have the piano roll / midi editor open, whenever I play notes on my midi device (keyboard) I can see the notes being played in the piano roll / midi editor while I'm playing them on my actual physical midi device. So if I held down the keys C3, D3 & F3, in the piano roll in FL studio the C3, D3 & F3 keys would light up indicating that those are the notes being played / pressed. It may seem like a very minimal or unimportant feature, but it certainly helps. Pro Tools 10 unfortunately did not support this feature. Does Pro Tools 11 have this?

Wrong section, sorry. Please move to the Pro Tools 11 section. :-)

Try setting the midi/instrument track to view NOTES instead of CLIPS.

It is set to view notes, not clips... I think you misunderstood what I was saying, let me show you. In FL Studio (and a few other DAWS) when you have the MIDI editor open and you play notes on your keyboard, FL Studio will show you the notes that you are playing in the MIDI editor while you are playing them.

So if you play C5, E5 & G5 in the MIDI editor in FL Studio, it will look like this:

Notice how the C5, E5 & G5 keys are actually light up and a different color, indicating that they are currently being played / pressed... And as soon as I stop playing those keys the notes won't be light up in the MIDI editor, you see what I mean?

Pro Tools 10 does not support this feature. It does not show the MIDI notes that are being played while you are playing them within the MIDI Editor...

If anyone knows if PT11 supports this feature, please let me know! :-)

Aha! Now I understand. I don't think its a feature of Pro Tools. Besides, its rather tough to watch a computer screen while playing a midi keyboard:o

I know what you mean! But lots of the time I find myself "designing" melodies rather then playing them... So for example, I'll play some chords on my keyboard, and as I'm holding down a chord I'll look at what chords im playing in the MIDI editor (in FL studio) and then draw out the notes... So I find that lots of times I actually draw or make melodies with my computer rather then playing them all by keyboard.

It may sound a bit odd, but it works for me. It's sort of like a hybrid of experimenting with notes on the keyboard and then readjusting them in a DAW. Or just using my keyboard as a reference to what notes are being pressed as I'm playing a nice sounding chord, then I'll draw them out in my DAW as I'm holding the keys down.

Does that make sense? :o
