Disk Doctor vs. Disk Warrior??

I'm a long standing Norton Disk Doctor user. Lately I've noticed many Pro Tools users, and all Avids, using Disk Warrior. A while back Avid switched delivering their systems with DD to DW. What are the differences?

Also, when using Disk Warrior, should I enable "protection" (I think that's what it is called). It is some kind of extension that checks hard drives. My thought is it might interfere with Pro Tools.

How do most DW users use DW?

Boot from the DW CD, run disk warrior then run the optimizer forget all the automated stuff, or loading it on the computer. better yet get your mac running as best you can then save the whole HD on to another drive. when you have a problem, save the important files, then zero out the fragged HD and copy the saved HD back onto your main drive. saves time ( or run DW while you sleep)

Desert dude:
So you use DW for regular optimizing? Do you need to boot from the DW disk just to optimize? And are you talking about internal HD, PT drives, or both - are the optimizing procedures different?

If you have drive space to copy all your audio files to another dirve, it is much faster and the most efficient and complete defraging to simply use the Apple drive set-up utility and reinitialize the drive. this takes less than 5 minutes.

If not, then runninng DW and PlusOptimizer from disc with no protection enabled is the recommended method.

Hope this is helpful.

I've been using Disc Doctor then Speed Disc for over 5 years.

How is DW better to use than DD/SD?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">yes, yes, yes & no DW seems to do a better job at optimizing and not screwing up anything. it just takes a while to do. Wheres suggestion is faster and cleaner

I use DW and Norton Speed Disc on my boot drive. On my audio drives, I just back-up and reinitialize everything - it seems safer, and more efficient.

I don't knwo anyone who has ever lost a file to DW. I know several who have to DD.

Hope this is helpful.
