PT6 and MIDI PATCH NAMES

just completed the patch name file for the roland xv5080.i did banks A-G. i downloaded a text file containing the patch names. i wrote a little program to read the patch names and write out an xml file. pretty neat. made things real easy. i am creating another one for the korg triton.

this program i wrote doesnot run by itself. you will need the software installed on your pc. the software is SAS. i wrote about 20 lines of code. what i did was download the patch names file for my roland xv 5080. i used the program to read this file and then create another text file with xml commands and the corresponding patch names and banks.

i am a programmer by profession, but do audio and video, dvd stuff too as my private business. i use pro tools hd and final cut pro.

if you can find the patch file names for your synths on the net, send it to me and i can create the 'midnam' file for you.

i just finished one for the korg triton and emu planet earth. i will test all of them tonite.

take care.

Me too - the email got bounced back. It's great of you to offer to do this.

Thanks,

Usinare,

I would be interested in that program also in having the steps, you did to accomplish this, writing out. I have a friend that would find this very beneficial. Thanks in advance.

Most Pro Tools users are in need of something like this:
What's the charge (I'd pay to not have to type in my patchlists again).

I'll add my voice to the "how do we do what you're doing" group.

Very keen to get the JV-1010 patches across. That would take some time manually.

We could all do our own and then upload them for the greater good.

Re: PT6 and MIDI PATCH NAMES

This is all well and good. And we all appreciate Usinare's efforts. But I find it unbelievable and unacceptable that DIGI adopt a MIDI naming format without a way to get your old names in! THIS is what I would call NOT backwards compatable (as they say PT6 IS). DIGI (not Apple) had an OMS names utility in PT 5.XX give us one in 6!

I'm digging PT'6 in many ways, but this (in addition to almost NO Softsynth/Sampler support yet) makes it unusable at my studio.

Sorry for the rant Digi, I do love yer stuff.

Tim

Re: PT6 and MIDI PATCH NAMES

Hi again Usinare, any chance of getting an e-mail that works, if you're still up for converting some of these patch lists?

Thanks,

Joel

Unsinare:

Is there any way you could post the XV-5080 midnam file that you have created? I've been trying to enter in the patch names manually, but now I'm getting an "error parsing the file" and I can't debug the problem because I don't know HTML.

I must say that Digidesign is really dropping the ball on this. Where is the documentation for producing one of these files? Are we all expected to become programmers now?
