PCIe Confused!
 

I just upgraded to an Asus Z8NA-D6 motherboard and I want to move to an HD setup but I have been getting different stories about PCIe x8 working or not

Can someone please tell me if any of the HD cards will work with this slot config?

2 x PCI-E x8 (Gen2 x4 Link)

I'm not sure, but what I can tell you, your motherboard uses the 5500 chipset. The 5520 would be better but the motherboards tend to be more expensive. You will also have to note that on Windows-based motherboards, the last slot is usually slot 1. So you will want to put the Accel HD card starting from the last PCIe slot on the motherboard.

From what I am being told by some is the PICe x1 HD cards will work in a PCIe x16, x8, x4 slot as long as the slot can be "electrically" the same as a x1

Can anyone chime in on this?
