Omni HD

OK,
So today I noticed that Channel one on the omni mic input is dead or putting out a very low output. Channel two is fine. Channel one line and inst works fine, but not mic.

Things tried:
Reset Omni
Tried input one in back of Omni.
Checked all hardware settings.
Same mic and cable tried on Ch 2, no problems.

The channel is not completely dead. Cracking up input one will record a very faint faraway signal. So there is some low very low level signal getting in.

Anything you might suggest I should try or is Channel one Mic pre going bad? Thanks for the help.

Re: Omni HD

What Mic are you using? Same exact one in each case? If a condenser make sure the phantom power on the problem channel is OK/try a dynamic mic as a test.

yeah, tried same mic and cable on both inputs. A dynamic mic doesn't work on channel one either.

The first mic used was a condenser mic. Phantom power seems to be ok. Afterwards, I tried the dynamic mic to rule out the condenser mic being bad and/or phantom power.

This has happened to a few others and is not something you can fix at home.

First off you have the "pad" button on +4 and not -10 right?

Here are a bit of info from others who have OMNI interfaces.

Happened to me as well. The Omnis up to a certain revision had an issue, that when you plugged/unplugged a mic while phantom power was on this somehow damaged the preamp.
Avid fixed it for free, even though my unit was out of warranty. It's a known issue.

Yeah, I saw from the link, this is a common problem. Hopefully, Avid will stand by their product, even though the unit is less than 2 yrs old. I did notice in some posts that people were saying that these units were problematic before Rev D. Mine is a Rev A, which I can't figure, since it's fairly new. I guess this one had been sitting in the warehouse shelf for awhile.
