protools 8 mtc not syncing

I have a mac 10.5.6 (leopard) system with a digi 002 and a mpc 2500 and I am running protools 8 but I cant get the mpc and protools to sync in mtc. When I try to sync the two it takes about two minutes if it syncs at all,once it syncs it will stay in sync, but once I hit stop on the mpc 2500,I have to wait again and I cant get past this point---please help

What is the frame rate of both systems?

If they are set to different rates, you might see this type of behavior.
