USB C or Thunderbolt interface

Mainly for music production on PT Vanilla with 2018 Macbook pro.

Which seems to be working the best these days?

A/D sounds great. One of the lowest latency’s in it’s class. Mic Pres are pretty good. Includes Talkback, Monitor Controller, MIDI, iOS Remote and more. I’m running PT 2019 Ultimate on a 2013 MacBook Pro with Mojave.

Re: USB C or Thunderbolt interface

I use a thunderbolt Focusrite Clarett 8x just for the interface, but to get to my MacBook Pro (which only has usb C) I use an adapter. From there I'm running an ADAT optical cable to the A/D card of a Focusrite Isa 428 mk 1! kind of complicated but it's working.
The ISA 428 is kinda neat because with it's card option I can use any preamps or outboard gear I want with nice results. My only desire is to try different tape emulators to get the "analog" vibe going, because I do mostly acoustic instruments and am looking for a vintage sound. I have a distressed and 6176 but I have yet to get that "tape" sound.

would love to hear any ideas...or gear. seriously looking at the Rupert Neve 5042 tape machine... don't want the 500 module because I don't want the expense of adding a lunchbox

Re: USB C or Thunderbolt interface

For "tape warmth", use a tape machine plugin on your tracks. Most can be demoed, so check out options from Waves, Slate and any others you can find. Remember to look at the plugin's "analog" settings as some will add tape hiss by default. Assuming you DON'T want that, set that to off/zero, save as a plugin preset and set the plugin to default to that preset instead of the factory default:o

Re: USB C or Thunderbolt interface

USB C is a type of connector shape.
Thunderbolt 3 also uses USB C connectors.
As does USB 3.1 gen2.
There are even some USB 3.1 gen1 that use USB C connectors.
